Roskomnadzor (RKN) found Google guilty of violating the law on information and fined the company for 700,000 rubles. This is reported on the site office. The company did not comply with the requirements of the RKN to remove from the search results of links to information prohibited in Russia. According to the agency, more than a third of links from a single registry of prohibited information are stored in the search.
The list of sites, access to which Russian providers are obliged to limit, is maintained by Roskomnadzor. Resources containing appeals to extremism, suicide propaganda and pornography advertising drugs, gambling without a license, as well as pirated websites fall into this registry.
In early July, Roskomnadzor drew up an administrative protocol for Google. The American company was notified of the control measures and a possible fine, but no action was taken by Google, the RNN press service reported. The office for the first time announced claims to Google for filtering the search in the summer of 2018. Then the company did not respond to the warning either and at the end of the year the court fined Google 500,000 rubles.
In 2019, Google still began to filter the search, sources told Vedomosti. According to them, the company still removes not all links in the registry, but most of them are about 70%.
