For the prohibition of Zello Roskomnadzor blocks the ip-addresses of Google in Russia

The fight against the Internet radio set entered the hottest season.
Roskomnadzor blocked 286 ip-addresses and 285 domains belonging to Google, they are used by Zello application, Interfax reports. Technical domains and Google addresses are entered in the register of prohibited resources on the basis of the request of the General Prosecutor's Office - in connection with the restriction of access to the Zello service.

According to the noncommercial organization "Roskomvoboda", the blocking of ip-addresses and Google domains occurs from April 6. Under the blocking are ip-addresses belonging to the domain http://googleusercontent.com/.

The technical domain is used by Google to host the service content of its own resources.

Roskomnadzor assures that inclusion of Google's technical domain in the register of prohibited resources should not affect the operation of other Internet company services. As the blocking of technical ip-addresses affects their work, it is impossible to predict, says the head of Roskomvoboda, Artem Kozlyuk. Companies distribute ip-addresses automatically, in addition, there is such a thing as dynamic ip-address: today it uses one resource, in a week - another. Therefore, theoretically, blocking can affect the operation of services in Russia by Google and other web sites, he suggests. But the work itself Zello lock can not prevent, says Kozlyuk.

Roskomnadzor has been trying to block Zello in Russia since the end of April 2017. Its management did not provide Roscomnadzor with information about the company, which is necessary for inclusion in the register of information dissemination organizers. On March 23 this year Roskomnadzor issued recommendations to the operators to conduct an experiment - to limit access to Zello: the service ordered to block 36 subnets, 26 of which belong to Amazon. These subnets contain almost 15 million ip-addresses, of which 13.5 million belong to Amazon. But then Amazon asked Zello not to use his services to bypass the locks in Russia, one of the founders of Zello, Alexei Gavrilov, said on the air of Echo of Moscow. Service began to bypass the lock using another platform, said Gavrilov, but did not say which. The site https://zello.com/ was available on Wednesday, April 11, and allowed to download radio applications, the correspondent of "Vedomosti" was convinced.

Zello is an application for various platforms (iOS, Anroid, Windows), which allows you to exchange voice messages over the Internet. The principle of operation is similar to a walkie-talkie: users can not talk in parallel, only in turn. But unlike conventional radios Zello works wherever there is internet. Therefore, the application has become very popular among truck drivers. In Russia, they used the service to coordinate strikes against the introduction of the Plato system in the winter of 2015.

Zello was created by Russian developers, but now the company is located in American Austin. Zello did not join the register, as it would provide for the duty, among other things, to store data and communicate all users in Russia - which is only 10% of the service audience, explained Gavrilov in an interview with RBC. In April 2017, the Zello audience in Russia had about 400 thousand users. Worldwide, the application has about 100 million registered, and 4 million active users per month (data for April 2017).

The press service of Roskomnadzor did not respond to Vedomosti's request, whether the agency will block Amazon's ip-addresses. A representative of Google declined to comment. "Vedomosti" expect a response from Alexei Gavrilov.
