The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case due to the spill of more than 44 tons of aviation fuel that occurred on the pipeline of the Norilsk Nickel subsidiary.
The bodies of the Investigative Committee for the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Khakassia opened a criminal case on the fact of an aviation fuel spill near the village of Tukhard on Taimyr. This was reported on the website of the local investigation department.
The case was initiated on the basis of a crime under Part 1 of Art. 246 of the Criminal Code (violation of environmental protection rules during the performance of work), indicated in the message The decision was made based on the results of a procedural audit.
According to the preliminary version of the investigation, on Sunday, when pumping aviation fuel from a barge to a production warehouse located in the Tukhard area, the pipeline was depressurized and over 44 tons of aviation fuel was spilled onto the helipad and the adjacent territory.
The pipeline where the fuel was spilled belongs to Norilsktransgaz, a subsidiary of Norilsk Nickel. Norilsktransgaz indicated that the depressurization lasted about 15 minutes. The main department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Krasnoyarsk Territory noted that the spill of fuel on the ground occurred on the Bolshaya Kheta River.
Recently, two environmental incidents have occurred at the enterprises of Norilsk Nickel, due to which criminal cases have also been opened. At the end of May, a fire broke out on the territory of TPP-3 owned by the company and about 21,000 tons of fuel spilled. After that, the Investigative Committee opened a negligence case against the mayor of Norilsk, Rinat Akhmetchin, and a case under the article on violation of environmental protection rules against Norilsk Nickel employees.
In addition, at the end of June, Novaya Gazeta reported that Norilsk Nickel's Talnakh enrichment plant was dumping industrial waste into water bodies. Norilsk Nickel said that the factory had drained recycled water across the border of the sump, so the staff decided to lower the water level by pumping out clarified industrial water to the adjacent territory. The company recognized this as a gross violation and removed the responsible persons from work.
