Naftogaz began to prepare for the analysis of the Ukrainian GTS for scrap

The strategic prospects of the Ukrainian gas transmission system (GTS) are “simple but not very positive,” said Yuri Vitrenko, executive director of the Naftogaz of Ukraine company, on the ZIK television channel. According to him, the Nord Stream II gas pipeline, which goes to Europe bypassing Ukraine, will be built.

“The strategic vision [of the prospects for the Ukrainian GTS] is simple, but it is not very positive: Nord Stream 2 will be built. Very big chances that it will be built. There is also the possibility that he will be stopped, and we are working on it, but this is unlikely. Especially considering that the German government supports this project, many European companies, unfortunately, thanks to direct corruption, support this project. Therefore, there are very big chances that the Nord Stream II will be built, ”said Vitrenko.

“If this happens, there is a very high probability that there will be no gas transit through the territory of Ukraine at all,” he specified.

At the same time, Vitrenko explained that he did not know about any promises made by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel to preserve the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine. "Obeschanka-Tsatsyanka", - described the manager of the words of the German Chancellor.

“What does promise mean? We have no signed contract. Even if it was, the contract signed with the Russians, we understand, it does not cost anything. We already know for sure that the Europeans are not ready to give any guarantees, ”concluded Vitrenko.

Nevertheless, Vitrenko explained that the main course of action remains “Plan A” - the preservation of the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine. He confirmed that the company is already working on a “plan B”, which Vitrenko told about in early October. It provides for the recovery of damages from Russia for a simple Ukrainian gas transportation system. Ukraine estimates the damage at $ 12 billion, the corresponding claim has already been filed to the International Arbitration Court, he said then.

In August, Chancellor Angela Merkel, during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that Ukraine should not lose its transit of Russian gas. Putin then clarified that Ukrainian transit must meet economic requirements and be “economic in every sense of the word.”
