An old bureaucratic wisdom says: "If you can not prevent it, head it." If the trouble has happened, look for how to turn the event to your advantage. " In the Tuscan winemaking company Fattoria della Aiola, famous for its scandalous investigation, the Anti-Corruption Foundation Aleksey Navalny, in which this structure was associated with the head of the Russian government, Dmitry Medvedev, also figured out how to get a profit from the situation. This is assistant manager of the company Sergei Stupnitsky Daria Ivleva told the journalist RBC Denis Puzyrev, who made a Tuscany report for the "interlocutor." Ivleva confirmed that Ilya Yeliseyev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Gazprombank, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Non-Profit Foundation Dar and a classmate of the Prime Minister, is the owner of the winemaking industry. In Fattoria della Aiola they hope that now more people will know about the company and this will well affect sales in Russia.
"It's difficult for us to negotiate with large importers - they need promoted brands and large lots," Ivleva said. "But now we are planning to find partners with such a wonderful marketing legend." According to Ivleva, after the publication of FBK's investigation, several CVs from Russia came to the company's post office asking for a job, but there was also commercial interest. The company has already applied for participation in Solo Italiano Grandi Vini - the largest exhibition of Italian wines.
It follows from the FBK investigation that the Cypriot offshore Furcina Ltd, owned by Eliseev, bought the Italian company Fattoria della Aiola S.r.l., which owns the same wine-growing farm, 100 hectares of land and a three-storeyed manor built in the 16th century, for $ 9.9 million. Aiola - this is an estate known in Tuscany from the Middle Ages, notes "Sobesednik". Here, there is a fragment of the fortress wall and two fortification towers, in which now Serbian workers from the winemaking industry live. Vineyards in the hills broke in the 1930s. Senator Giovanni Malagodi, then the local winery also appeared.
The basis of the assortment of Fattoria della Aiola "Sobesednik" refers to the local Chianti wines - three Chianti Classico (of which two - Chianti Reserve with aging in oak barrels). There are two red wines of the category IGT (established geographical name) - one white, one pink. The company also sells grappa, brandy, sparkling wine and olive oil under its own brand, they are produced at the facilities of other companies, but from local raw materials.
According to Vedomosti, there are five managers and nine permanent workers in the company, seasonal personnel are attracted to harvest grapes, Ivleva said. Yeliseyev, according to her, comes to Ayola rarely because of lack of time, but he is interested in winemaking. The farm owns 100 hectares, 36 hectares of vineyards are occupied, and only 22 hectares yield a crop suitable for winemaking. Another 10 hectares are occupied by olive groves, the rest of the land is covered with forest where, according to local residents, there are wolves, wild boars, deer and roe deer.
Yeliseyev called Fattoria Della Aiola his own "purely private investment", which has nothing to do with the funds that he manages. "My business as a private person, an entrepreneur, you can find in Italy and even outside Europe," he told Kommersant. The historical building, which Ivleva called the Renaissance castle, Eliseyev called "an old villa that requires major repairs" and "that still a residence", where you can only see "ghosts of the late Renaissance." He also noted that after the "advertising" from FBK, the sales of wines and spirits increased "tangibly": "I am now seriously thinking about exporting our Chianti to Russia, and only a couple of years ago I could not even dream about it."
Buy wine "from Medvedev" can be in Russia and now through the online store, said "Sobesednik." Now they sell out the remains of the 1500 bottles purchased in 2015 and say that demand has not grown at all after the publication of the FBK investigation.
