The lawyer of the former co-owner of Promsvyazbank Dmitry Ananyev F 165 Sergey Kovalev told Forbes that there is no businessman among the Russians from whom the Cypriot authorities decided to pick up the “golden passports”.

“Dmitry Ananyev was not revoked Cypriot citizenship. This is completely fake news, he himself learned about these rumors from the press. The Cypriot authorities did not contact Dmitry Ananyev and no one notified him that there were questions about his status as a citizen of Cyprus, ”said the entrepreneur’s lawyer.

The fact that information about the deprivation of Ananyev’s Cypriot citizenship is untrue, Forbes also said the official representative of the businessman. “Neither Dmitry Ananyev himself, nor a single member of his family are classified by the competent authorities of Cyprus as persons who would already be deprived or might be deprived of their future Cypriot citizenship,” he said. “All requirements established by the procedure for obtaining citizenship by Dmitry Ananyev were fully complied with,” said the representative of Ananyeva.

Earlier, Open Media, citing a source surrounded by a businessman and a lawyer who worked with him, said that the Cypriot authorities deprived Ananiev of the citizenship that he received under the program for investors.

The fact that Dmitry Ananyev received the status of a resident of Cyprus, his representative spoke at a meeting of the Moscow Arbitration Court in February.

In early November, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Cyprus, Konstantinos Petridis, said that the government had decided to deprive citizenship of 26 foreigners who received so-called golden passports due to investments in the country's economy. At the same time, the minister did not specify who was deprived of citizenship, but said that these people have the right to challenge the decision, Reuters wrote. Later it became known that among the 26 people deprived of the so-called gold passports of Cyprus, there were nine Russians.

Shortly before that, the Cyprus government announced that it would check the “golden passports” that were issued before 2018, that is, before the period when the criteria for checking citizenship applications were tightened. Petridis stressed that the authorities will find out whether Cypriot passports were issued to persons suspected of committing crimes or under international and European sanctions.
