Supporters of Alexei Navalny gathered in "Russia of the future"

In Moscow, there was a constituent congress of the new party of Alexei Navalny. The oppositionist himself was not present at it - he was sentenced to 30 days for organizing an unauthorized action on May 5. The party was named "Russia of the future". It is assumed that Mr. Navalny will become its leader at the next congress. The oppositionist has repeatedly tried to create his own party, but twice before the registration the names he coined "intercepted" the structures associated with political technologist Andrei Bogdanov.

Until the last moment, the place of the founding congress of the party was kept secret, since the supporters of Alexei Navalny had repeatedly faced at the last moment with refusals to rent premises for the congress. As a result, the congress was held on Saturday in Omega Plaza, where the office of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), Alexei Navalny, is located.

124 delegates of the congress from 60 subjects voted for the establishment of the party "Russia of the future" and its charter. The name of the party refers to the phrase "the beautiful Russia of the future", which Mr. Navalny and his supporters use, talking about the transformations that they intend to hold in case of coming to power. Alexei Navalny was not present at the congress. Recall Tverskoi District Court of Moscow arrested him for 30 days for organizing an unsanctioned protest on May 5.

Oppositionist's associate Leonid Volkov, who was also not present at the congress, told Kommersant that Aleksei Navalny would run for the post of chairman of the party at its next congress.
According to the law, for the registration of the party it is necessary to open branches in more than half of the subjects of the Russian Federation and submit documents to the Ministry of Justice. According to the lawyer FBK Ivan Zhdanov, this phase will take about two weeks. Representatives of the Ministry did not attend the constituent congress. According to Mr. Zhdanov, this will not affect the process of registering the party.

While leading the party will be the central council.

It included seven people: FBK director Roman Rubanov, fund staff Georgy Alburov, Lyubov Sobol, Ruslan Shaveddinov, Nikolai Lyaskin, Alexander Pomazuev and Ivan Zhdanov, who was elected secretary of the council.

According to Ms. Sobol, the party aims to "achieve real changes and reforms," ​​and also to fight corruption, "so that money from the budget does not go offshore and not be spent on yachts and palaces."

As previously reported to Kommersant, the Ministry of Justice's notification of the constituent congress indicated that the party would be called the "Working Name". As explained by Mr. Navalny, this was done because the names of his party "Kremlin swindlers steal even before the congress." The oppositionist is trying to create a party since 2012. Then Leonid Volkov filed a notice to the Ministry of Justice about the creation of the party "People's Alliance", the regulator suspended registration due to a number of comments. In 2013, political strategist Andrei Bogdanov renamed his party "The Native Land" in the "People's Alliance". After the "People's Alliance" was registered with the Ministry of Justice, Alexei Navalny renamed his organization the Progress Party. Mr. Navalny attempted to register this name six times, but each time he was refused.

On March 22, the Justice Ministry also renamed the "Civil Position" related to Andrei Bogdanov to the Progress Party. The application was submitted by the former deputy head of the Moscow staff of Alexey Navalny Vitaly Serukanov, who severed relations with the oppositionist.

In December 2017, initiative groups in 20 cities nominated Alexei Navalny for president. Before that, the oppositionist opened his election headquarters in the regions. The Central Election Commission refused to register him as a candidate because of a conviction for a heavy article, but the staffs continued to work - on their basis, it is planned to create regional branches of "Russia of the Future".

According to Aleksey Makarkin, the leading expert of the Center for Political Technologies, the creation of the party will allow Aleksey Navalny "to mobilize his supporters and prevent them from coming to other parties." According to the expert, the increase in the retirement age announced by the government can provoke citizens' protests in the near future - Mr. Navalny will try to intercept this agenda, in which the party will help him.
