Dmitry Rybolovlev sent his son-in-law to the Uruguayan Senate

Uruguayan businessman Juan Sartori, husband of the eldest daughter of Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev F 17 Catherine, was elected senator of Uruguay. Sartori, 38, became the youngest member of the upper house of the Uruguayan parliament, Teledoce reported.

As a senator, Sartori promises to deal primarily with employment and economic recovery. He emphasizes that it is necessary to bring new technologies to the country. “We see that when Uber or other global technologies come, they are faced with legal emptiness and dullness, and therefore we must attract them through the creation of an attractive regulatory framework,” Sartori said. “I would like all those large technology, research companies that create very good and qualified jobs to consider Uruguay as their base in the region,” he emphasized.

Sartori was elected senator following the elections that took place in Uruguay on Sunday, October 27th. The first round of the presidential election took place in the country on the same day, but it did not reveal a clear winner. Frente Amplio presidential candidate Daniel Martinez gained a little more than 40% of the vote. His closest competitor, Luis Lacalle Pou of the center-right National Party, received about 30%. The second round of elections will be held on November 24.

Sartori also planned to run for president. But six months of experience in politics was not enough for him to win - in June, he lost to the senator and son of former Uruguayan president Luis Lacalle at the internal primaries of the National Party.

Juan Sartori did not previously hold public office, but proved to be a successful businessman. A native of Montevideo, he received his education at Harvard, as well as at the Economics Department of the University of Lausanne (HEC Lausanne), where he met the daughter of Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev Ekaterina. In 2003, 22-year-old Sartori created the management company Union Capital Group in Geneva. In 2008, he sold a company to the management team, whose assets under management were valued at $ 1 billion, and focused on the agribusiness. In 2018, Juan Sartori bought 20% of the English football club Sunderland for 3 million pounds.

The October 27th election was Sartori's first political experience. Moreover, he first voted in his native country. Voting in elections is mandatory for Uruguayan citizens, but Sartori previously almost always lived abroad. As a result, a funny thing happened at the polling station with Sartori: he lost his voter ID, which puts a stamp confirming that the person appeared at the polling station. Members of the election commission were forced to put this stamp on the hand of the future senator.

Ekaterina Rybolovleva and Juan Sartori got married in 2015. The newlyweds were married in the circle of close friends and family on the Greek island of Scorpios, where 47 years earlier, almost a day a day, married Greek billionaire Aristotle Onassis and the widow of American President John F. Kennedy Jacqueline. Rybolovlev’s daughter bought the island in 2013 with the money of her father from the granddaughter of shipping magnate Athena (who, like Catherine, enjoys horse riding). Now the couple has two children. Until recently, spouses with children lived in Europe, however, when Sartori decided to go into politics, they moved to Uruguay.
