Russia's Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika, who arrived in Dagestan today as part of a working trip, presented the new prosecutor Denis Popov to the staff of the republic's supervisory authority.
The Prosecutor General specified that under the decree of the President, Mr. Popov was appointed to the post of Prosecutor of Dagestan for a five-year term. According to Yuri Chaika, Denis Popov has been working in the law enforcement structure for more than 20 years and during this time proved himself to be a decent, energetic and efficient worker. This is reported by Interfax.
At the meeting in Makhachkala, the Prosecutor General also instructed prosecutors to find out what means "the biggest houses" were built, which, according to him, belonged to officials in the republic. "It is necessary to exclude the replacement of state and municipal services on the basis of subordination and control by persons who are close relatives, the participation of heads of state bodies in the activities of commercial organizations," TASS quotes Mr. Chaika.
He noted that the allocation of land is one of the most corrupt areas in Dagestan. "First of all, <...> pay attention to the work of agencies responsible for registration of allocated or purchased sites," - ordered the Prosecutor General.
The deputies of the People's Assembly of Dagestan agreed on Mr. Popov's candidacy for the post of the republic's prosecutor on February 1. His predecessor, Ramazan Shahnavazov, who headed the supervisory authority since April 2013, left his post without returning from vacation. At the same time, a new republican law on the coordination of the candidacy of the district prosecutor was adopted half an hour before the consideration of the Prosecutor General's Office's presentation to Denis Popov.
Recall that on February 1 at the session of the People's Assembly of Dagestan the law "On the order of approval of the candidature for appointment to the post of prosecutor of the Republic of Dagestan" was adopted. In accordance with the amendment to the Constitution of the Republic, the new procedure provides for the coordination of the candidature submitted by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation with the head of Dagestan and the People's Assembly. The decision was passed unanimously at once in two readings, for it 80 deputies voted.
The last item on the agenda of the session was the coordination of the candidacy of Denis Popov, who had previously worked as a procurator of the Republic of Khakassia. Mr. Popov was represented by Deputy Prosecutor General Ivan Sydoruk. He reported that the candidate graduated from the Russian Law Academy of the Ministry of Justice in 2001, went from investigator of the inter-district prosecutor's office to the prosecutor of Khakassia, for the period of service he showed himself only on the positive side, was repeatedly encouraged by the Prosecutor General, has the title of an honorary worker of the prosecutor's office and is capable of organize its activities in accordance with the requirements.
For the approval of the candidature of the new prosecutor, 77 deputies voted, one vote was cast against. This is not the first experience of work at the head of the Dagestan prosecutor's office "Varangian". The predecessor of Ramazan Shakhnavazov as prosecutor of Dagestan was Andrei Nazarov. He has held this post since 2009. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Nazarov worked as a deputy prosecutor of the Chelyabinsk region, and after completing his work in Dagestan, he headed the prosecutor's office of Bashkiria.
