The explosion at the Military Space Academy was not fatal

In a leading military institution of the country attempted a massacre.
On April 2, an explosive device, equivalent to a pound of TNT, worked in St. Petersburg at the Mozhaisky Military Space Academy (WKA) named after Mozhaisky. Four officers were injured. The Investigative Committee considers the incident as an attempted massacre. Perhaps, in this way, someone from the staff or cadets of the academy tried to take revenge on the personnel officers, near whose premises the VCA worked.

The explosion thundered at 13:30, and a few minutes before it, the Academy received several reports from the academy about the discovery of a package in which a bomb might have been located. According to preliminary data, the package was found under the stairs leading to the personnel service of the Academy. The teachers themselves, who have relevant experience, tried to deal with the dangerous discovery. One of them was Rifat Zakirov, who previously commanded an engineering battalion. However, after examining the discovery, Colonel Zakirov, who was awarded the Order of Courage for two Chechen campaigns, the Medal of Courage medal, and the sign “For Mine Clearance”, highly revered in the armed forces, clearly realized that an out-of-order device could be disarmed only with the help of a robot engineer . As a result, a bomb, according to eyewitnesses, covered with a bullet-proof vest to extinguish the blow of the blast wave. However, the devastating effects could not be avoided.

IED, according to preliminary data, worked from a timer, which was used as a cell phone.

The staircase under which the bomb lay collapsed, and nearby teachers were injured and concussed. The most serious injuries were Colonel Zakirov, who had to undergo an operation; now, according to the Defense Ministry, his life is out of danger. In addition, Colonel Nikolai Kurday, Major Andrei Tonyshev and Senior Lieutenant Valentina Golovacheva, who worked at the academy, were injured.

Shortly after the explosion, an academy preparing specialists for aerospace forces and other types and branches of the armed forces of the Russian Federation in 40 specialties was evacuated, and the investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia and FSB experts examined the scene. The latter, tentatively, estimated the power of the bomb at 500 g in TNT equivalent. Again, according to the initial data, the bomb was stuffed with plasticite and had no damaging elements.

The Military Investigation Department of the Strategic Missile Forces for the Strategic Missile Forces recognized the incident as an attempt to kill two or more people in a generally dangerous manner (Article 30 and Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code).

However, the qualification may still change. Especially since within the walls of the Mozhaysky Academy, a potential terrorist was already identified.

The same administration of the TFR accused cadet Vadim Osipov of preparing “for the sake of self-affirmation and drawing attention to himself” of a resonant terrorist act: first, according to investigators, he allegedly intended to set fire to the barracks of the academy, and then to blow up an ice cream cart from the center of St. Petersburg filled with explosives. However, the Moscow District Military Court, which was considering the preparation of the attack, sent a 1st year cadet Osipov to a psychiatric clinic for compulsory treatment. At the end of last year, the cadet was discharged and arrested for a new trial.
