Another large blackout in the Crimea, because of which on Wednesday afternoon without electricity for an hour and a half remained the entire peninsula, was caused by an accident at the substation on the mainland of the Russian Federation. In particular, flows over the energy bridge Kuban-Krym (800 MW) ceased, and the peninsula worked on reserve power supplies. At 16:20, according to Rossetei, the flows to the peninsula were completely restored.
Electricity in the Crimea disconnected at about 15:07 on June 13. According to the source of "b" in the government of Crimea, without light there was the entire peninsula. Also disconnected mobile communication. According to eyewitnesses, traffic jams were formed in Simferopol because traffic lights were switched off, dozens of people were stuck in non-working elevators. As the interlocutor of "Kommersant" told, with the help of backup power sources (generators) social infrastructure facilities were fed. Another source of Kommersant notes that during the accident 11 reserve mobile GTES with a capacity of about 220 MW were included. In total, according to the Ministry of Energy, about 2.35 million inhabitants of the peninsula remained without light.
The press service of the Ministry of Health of Crimea, "Kommersant" reported that the work of hospitals did not affect the blackout. "All the medical institutions connected to backup power sources," the Ministry of Health said. "The hospitals worked in regular mode." However, they added that the ambulance in Simferopol during the Blackout received 30% less calls than usual at that time, which is associated with interruptions in the work of telephone communications. In the main department of the Ministry of Emergency Measures in the Crimea "Kommersant" reported that information about emergency situations due to disconnection of light in emergency services was not received.
The energy system of the Crimea is energy-deficient, there are three small TPPs, mobile GTES, green generation, but this capacity is often not enough to cover consumption under critical loads. At the peak of the loads the Crimea consumes up to 1.4 GW. Since the end of 2015, the peninsula has been connected by an energy bridge (up to 800 MW) to the Unified Energy System of Russia, two large stations are being built - the Tauride and Balaklava TPPs for 940 MW.
The cause of blackout is the emergency shutdown of automation at the Taman substation (500 kV), which completely paralyzed the work of all four of the Kuban-Crimea energy bridge. The flow of electricity from the mainland part of the Russian Federation was partially resumed after 16 hours, a source in Kommersant reported.
As Kommersant explained to Kommersant, the person familiar with the situation disconnected the transmission lines due to smoke in the closed switchgear at the substation (the reasons are set).
Head of Crimea Sergey Aksenov on Twitter also linked the situation with the operation of the emergency automatics system due to power surges.
In the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, the version with the accident at the substation was confirmed: because of the automatic operation, two autotransformers were repaid at the substation "Taman". "There is a set load, the flow is 241 MW," - commented to the Energy Ministry at 16:30, promising that in the near future the electricity supply will be fully restored. In "Rossetah" it was reported that as early as 16:20 both transformers of PS Taman and four lines of Kuban-Krym were put under tension: "At the moment the power flow is carried out in full." Completely power supply on the peninsula was restored at 17:22, said on his page in Facebook the Minister of Fuel and Energy of Crimea Vadim Belik.
The disabling of the emergency control system in the Kuban due to the damage to the backbone networks provoked a similar large shutdown on the peninsula in July 2017.
