More than 400 statistical indicators have been classified in Russia since the beginning of the year

The Russian authorities continue to secretly apply the “secret” stamp on state statistics - from demography and economics to the numbers in the work of power structures.

Since the beginning of the year, 425 indicators have ceased to be updated in the Unified Interdepartmental Information Statistical System (EMISS), and calculated the project “to be precise”.

In addition to the demographic data that the authorities closed in response to a collapse of the birth rate, disappeared from open access, for example, the number of canceled decisions to initiate a criminal case (Prosecutor General), the number of cases completed by investigators (Prosecutor General), the number of Russian citizens who went to work abroad (Ministry of Internal Affairs), the number of treated foreign citizens (Ministry of Health), and the share of roads of roads (Ministry of Internal Affairs), and the share of roads The Ministry of Defense of Russia, which meets regulatory requirements, weekly indicators of the Ministry of Agriculture on the progress of the haymaking and feed preparation.

In total, the EMISS contains 8832 indicators, of which 7576 are included in the federal plan of statistics (FPSR). In fact, only 42% are available, relevant and contain data, found out "to be precise."

In 1818, the “Update Update” mark is worth the indicators, 2108 of the indicators ended with the specified period, 1242 indicators were not updated for more than two years. 87 indicators in Emiss are empty: the values in them over the past year, and sometimes the entire affordable period are filled with zeros.

The tendency to more closed statistics has been originating around 2018, says the director of the Information Culture ANO, Ivan Beatin: “First of all, those data that make conclusions that contradict official rhetoric and which are used by foreign analysts to monitor the effectiveness of sanctions become inaccessible.

After the start of the war, the process accelerated. The Customs Service closed detailed statistics on import and export, the Prosecutor General’s Office ceased to update the portal of legal statistics (forms of crime 4-EGS), Rosstat-complete data on the causes of death, social fund-detailed data on the number of people with disabilities. Economic data was exhausted from open access - about oil and gas production, and then about the production of gasoline and diesel fuel.

In 2025, demographic statistics were almost completely disappeared: at first - numbers in life expectancy, then detailed operational data on the number of born and dead, and finally - the population of the country.

At the same time, Rosstat stopped providing any mortality data on request, referring to the amendment to the Law “On Official Statistical Accounting” (282-FZ), adopted in February 2023. It allows you to suspend the publication of any data by government decisions.

The closure of operational (monthly) demographic statistics may be a reaction to discussing demographic news in a negative way in the media, this will hit a lot of demographic science and not only, the demograph Igor Efremov believes: “These data are also used by state departments at the federal and regional levels for analysis and monitoring of the demographic situation, therefore they will also suffer.”
