The former owners of Euroset - MegaFon and VimpelCom - decided to abandon the retailer's brand, because they could not share it among themselves. This was told by the operating director of "MegaFon" Anna Serebryonikova at the event of the company, dedicated to the results of the first quarter, the correspondent of RBC reports.
"It was an agreed decision of both sides. Since we can not uniquely divide this brand, the only fair way is to freeze it. There is such a legal mechanism for protecting the brand, which does not allow others to use it. But we will not use it commercially in an integrated network, "Serebryanikova said.
MegaFon and VimpelCom owned 50% of Euroset. Last summer, the companies agreed that VimpelCom would withdraw from the retailer's capital, receiving in exchange almost half of the 4,000 Euroset stores. The deal ended in early 2018.
But the only owner of the company "MegaFon" was not for long. In the spring, he agreed to merge the network with another major retailer - Svyaznoy. "MegaFon" transferred 100% of the shares of Euroset N.V. (owns the operating companies Euroset) Cyprus DTSRetail LTD (deals with the operational business of Svyaznoy). In return, the mobile operator received 25% plus one share of the combined company and two seats on the board of directors. The main shareholder of the merged company is the SLV group of Oleg Malis, a minority stake belongs to the NPF Blagosostoyanie.
In early June, the unified company announced that it would transfer to a single brand - Svyaznoy, and the Euroset brand would cease to exist during the year. As explained by the source of RBC, close to the company, the closure of the brand was a condition for VimpelCom when selling a stake in Euroset. The representative of VimpelCom did not comment on this statement.
