Former in-law of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev, Rakhat Aliyev, the last years of harsh criticism of his policies, was arrested Thursday night in Vienna. At home Mr Aliev in absentia sentenced to 40 years for the preparation of the seizure of power and kidnapping. In addition, the opposition leader is suspected of involvement in several murders.
An arrest warrant in Austria Rakhat Aliyev was discharged another on 19 May. On Thursday evening, the former in-law of Nursultan Nazarbayev was arrested. A representative of Mr. Aliyev Aynedter Manfred told the Austrian news agency APA that his client surrendered voluntarily and intends to cooperate with law enforcement authorities.
Rakhat Aliyev - one of the most ardent opponents of Nursultan Nazarbayev's policy, which had previously been married to the eldest daughter. Over the years, Mr. Aliyev worked as an ambassador of Kazakhstan in Austria, the country's representative to the OSCE, the deputy chief of the presidential security service, the head of the National Olympic Committee, as well as the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. At the same time, Rakhat Aliyev made no secret of his presidential ambitions forthat, in his opinion, and he paid.
In May 2007, the Kazakh authorities have initiated against Mr Aliyev's criminal case on charges of involvement in the kidnapping of the deputy chairman of the board of Nurbank Zholdas Timraliyev. Austrian authorities have refused to extradite Mr. Aliyev to his homeland, where, according to a court decision, it could not be guaranteed a fair hearing of the case. In 2008, a Kazakh court sentenced Nazarbayev's former son-in to 20 years in prison for involvement in the kidnapping Zholdas Timraliyev, and then another 20 years - for the attempted coup d'état organization. In January 2014 Kazakhstan's prosecutor filed a motion to institute criminal proceedings against Rakhat Aliyev for the murder of opposition leader Altynbek Sarsenbayev, his driver and bodyguard.
As a fugitive, Rakhat Aliyev is performed with exposures to the authorities of Kazakhstan and personally to Mr. Nazarbayev. In May 2009, he released the bookyoke "Godfather-in-Law," in which he accused the country's leadership in a number of illegal acts. In 2013 came the publication of another book of Rakhat Aliev - "The Godfather-in-Law II. Crime Scene Investigation - Austria ".
