"Kaspersky Lab" came under new US sanctions

The ban on using the company's products has spread to the military departments.
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed a law banning the use of Kaspersky Lab products by the US government, Reuters reports. This ban is part of the law on defense public procurement and applies to both civil and military departments, the agency writes.

The ban comes into force on October 1, 2018, follows from the text of the law published by the US Congress. Officials have to remove software from their information networks.

This is an increase in the ban on officials that the Trump administration approved in mid-September. Officials were given 90 days to remove the products of the Russian company from their networks, a special directive from the US Department of Homeland Security said. As a reason for their concern, the department in September pointed to the company's cooperation with Russian special services, as well as the requirements of Russian legislation, which, according to the ministry, allows Russian authorities to receive information from Kaspersky.

The case of Kaspersky Lab is well documented, Democratic senator Gene Shahin cites Reuters. According to her, the software company is a serious danger to the national security of the United States.

The adopted law is seriously worried about "Laboratory", as the separate mention of the company in this law is connected "solely with the location of the company's headquarters," it says in its message. There are products that are more common in the US public sector, and attackers can take advantage of the vulnerabilities that potentially exist in any software, it follows from the words of the company's representative. So, the new law will not reduce the US cybersquares, but it will cause significant damage to Kaspersky Lab's business and partners, the representative of the company sums up.

In September, it became known that the company intends to close its unit in Washington - Kaspersky Government Security Solutions (KGSS). KGSS employs about 10 people, all of them are US citizens. This representative office of the company was opened in 2014, its tasks included the development and supply of solutions for the US government and its contractors.
