Wards Dmitry Rogozin drilled the International Space Station

The head of Roskosmos did not rule out that a hole in the ISS skin could be drilled by someone both on Earth and directly in orbit. If this continues, the United States and the European Union may consider the joint stay of their astronauts with Roscosmos employees in orbit dangerous to life.

The crack in the ship's siding "Soyuz MS-09" appeared due to deliberate impact by the drill, this version is checked in "Roskosmos", said the head of the department Dmitry Rogozin.

"This is some kind of technological error of some specialist. There is a slip of the drill over the surface, "Rogozin said (quoted by Interfax). At the same time, according to him, it is not yet clear whether such actions were carried out on Earth or already in orbit.

According to him, "the obvious impact was on the ship's shell from the inside", while it was rendered by "an uncertain hand".

In late August, on the ship "Union of MS", docked to the ISS, was found a microcrack, because of which there was a leakage of air from the station. On this ship the next change of astronauts reached the station. A slow drop in pressure was recorded during the astronauts' sleep, but they were informed of the existence of the crack on the morning of Thursday, August 30, as there was no real danger to the crew.

Initially, it was assumed that the cause of the formation of a crack was the entry of a micrometeorite, Rogozin said. Photos and video recordings of the crack in Soyuz were transferred to Earth, after studying the damage in the Mission Control Center, they were instructed to seal it. As a result, the crack was eliminated with the help of epoxy resin.

"RIA Novosti" referring to two sources in the industry reported that the likely cause of the crack was a mistake in production: a factory employee drilled an extra hole in the ship's hull and, to avoid being found, sealed it with special glue. "The glue dried up and was squeezed out by opening the hole," said the source of the agency.
