On July 26, the Moscow City Court sentenced Group-IB founder Ilya Sachkov to 14 years in a strict regime colony and a fine of 500,000 rubles. in the case of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). He pleaded not guilty. The state prosecution requested that he be sentenced to 18 years in prison.

According to the court decision, one day in the pre-trial detention center for Sachkov will be counted as one day of the term in the colony. Lawyer Sergei Afanasiev told RIA Novosti that he would appeal the verdict. The defense also promised to appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

What exactly the court found Sachkov guilty of is unknown. Cases of treason are classified. The Moscow City Court held sessions behind closed doors. According to lawyer Sachkov, the process took place at a "sprint pace" - in 10 working days. During the debate, the representative of the Prosecutor General's Office, Milana Digaeva, said that Sachkov's guilt had been fully proven.

After the start of the special operation, the Russian division of Group-IP was allocated a separate company F.A.C.C.T. After the decision of the court became known, F.A.C.C.T. published a message stating that Sachkov continues to work on projects while in custody. On July 26, some employees of the company came to support Sachkov in court. They were wearing T-shirts with his picture on them.

Ilya Sachkov was arrested on September 29, 2021. The FSB investigator claimed that Sachkov passed on information constituting a state secret to foreign special services. The defense petition, filed at the stage of preliminary hearings in court, stated that the key witness for the prosecution was an “interested person” - ex-head of the 2nd department of the FSB Information Security Center Sergei Mikhailov (serving a 22-year sentence for treason).

In July, a video recorded in June 2021 appeared on Ilya Sachkov’s social networks, where he claims that “a serious provocation is being prepared” against him. After his arrest, he said that a criminal case against him had been initiated in favor of private individuals who were "strongly interfered" by his professional activities. On July 24, he called the possible verdict a victory for the American intelligence services and a planned attack on the Russian IT sector.
