In the Russian capital in September this year, the authorities opened the Zaryadye park (the project of the American architectural bureaus Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Hargreaves Associates, as well as the Russian bureau Citymaker) at the site of the demolished Soviet hotel "Russia". The original estimate of the project in 2013 was less than 5 billion rubles, but by now it has grown to 14 billion rubles. This was stated by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Development Policy and Construction Marat Khusnullin. At the same time, most of these funds went not to the park itself, but to build stylobates, parking lots and various facilities in this park, as well as equipping them with machinery.
As the newspaper Vedomosti writes, the construction of all ground facilities and underground parking for 430 cars with a total area of more than 83,000 square meters cost 9.5 billion rubles, the improvement of the park required another 3.69 billion rubles, and the floating bridge - 860 million rubles rubles. Immediate costs for the creation of the park's flora were in the general estimate quite modest. For 470.5 million rubles (6.72 million euros), the construction contractor - the municipal JSC Mosinzhproekt - purchased in Germany up to 1 million annual and perennial plants, 760 adult large trees and over 7,000 shrubs. That is, all the planting material, including birch, spruce, pine and even plants included in the Red Book of Russia, as well as 200 families of earthworms - was fully acquired in industrial Germany. It turned out that in Russia, no one can buy such trees, plants and shrubs in such volumes.
Piquant detail: since shrubs, annual plants and even large-sized trees in the park "Zariadye" will have to be updated with varying frequency, one can safely assume that Sergei Sobyanin and Marat Khusnullin will provide the Germans with new orders at the expense of Moscow taxpayers.
However, the park "Charge" - this is only particular. Modern Russia continues Soviet traditions and is still a major consumer of "living wood products" from Germany. For example, the famous Kremlin blue spruce, which Russian patriots are so proud of and along the lines of which military parades are arranged on Red Square, are bought regularly ... in forestry farms of the federal state of Brandenburg (Germany).
In particular, from the forestry of Lorberg (Lorberg) to Moscow, over a hundred of blue fir trees have been planted in recent years.
- Russians are changing the Christmas tree, standing at the Kremlin wall, every 25-30 years. They grow so high that because of them the wall is not visible. Therefore, they are changed to younger trees, "the owner of the forestry nursery Stefan Lorberg told the DPA news agency. The choice for these trees fell also because "German products" confidently withstand strong atmospheric pollution and long winters in Moscow. In addition to spruce, Russia buys birch, linden, perennial shrubs, juniper plants and annual plants in Germany.

"When Putin is sitting in the Kremlin, he sees our Brandenburg fir trees," the German news agency DPA proudly points out.
Cultivation of perennial trees and bushes, as well as annual plants is a very large and developed business in Germany, which successfully thrusts its Polish, Austrian, Swiss and even Scandinavian competitors. The annual turnover of this industry in Germany is estimated from 6 to (presumably) 10 billion euros, of which up to 20-25% falls on exports. Before the crisis of 2014, one of the largest export markets for German forest products was Russia, which bought up to a third of German exports (in the amount of 500 million euros each year).
