Marina Rakova, the vice-president of Sberbank and ex-minister of the Ministry of Education, suspected of embezzling 50 million rubles, did not appear for questioning.
According to him, Mrs. Rakova turned off her phones and left her place of residence.
“Rakova has been hiding from the investigating authorities since yesterday evening. In the afternoon of September 29, Marina Nikolaevna was summoned for a second interrogation. The investigation team tried to get in touch with her last night. She turned off all phones and left the place of residence. I stopped communicating with relatives. She also didn’t show up for work, ”the agency's interlocutor said. Anyone who has information about the whereabouts of Mrs. Rakova should contact the capital department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the agency's interlocutor said.
As a source told Kommersant earlier, in August a criminal case was opened against Ms. Rakova under Part 4 of Art. 159 (large-scale fraud). Yesterday, the ex-deputy minister's country house and office were searched, the media reported. Ms Rakova became a defendant in the embezzlement criminal case. Sberbank argued that the case against her was not related to the activities of the organization.
A RIA Novosti source said that the Russian-British Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences (also known as Shaninka), which was previously involved as a contractor for the implementation of government contracts within the framework of the federal project Teacher of the Future, is involved in the criminal case of Ms. Rakova. It was preliminarily established that Ms. Rakova, being the deputy head of the Ministry of Education, lobbied for the allocation of budgetary funds to the Fund for New Forms of Education Development (FNFRO). In this organization, she held the position of general director. According to the expert examination, the reports on the research carried out were falsified. It was established that the FNFRO unlawfully accepted the work performed by Shaninka, while the funds for these purposes were paid unreasonably. Against the background of information that appeared in the media, the police came to the university with a check. The Ministry of Internal Affairs said that the university provides all-round assistance to the employees of the department.
