Former First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov will head Vnesheconombank from May 28, sources said. On Monday it can be presented to the staff.

Igor Shuvalov, who was the first deputy prime minister, will head the Vnesheconombank's state corporation since Monday, May 28, a source in VEB told RBC.

"It officially comes on Monday," the source said. Representation of the former first deputy chairman of the government to the bank's staff may take place on Monday, another source close to the state corporation confirmed: "The official appointment can be held this week, and the presentation to the team on Monday."

The decree on appointing Shuvalov to the post of the head of VEB is expected in the near future, RBC said a federal official on condition of anonymity.

The fact that the former first deputy prime minister will head VEB, previously reported two sources of RBC in the financial market and confirmed the source close to VEB. "Igor Shuvalov will be appointed to the place of Sergei Gorkov," RBC said in a source on the banking market, interacting with VEB on key projects.

The apparatus of Shuvalov and the press service of VEB refused to comment.

Since February 2016, VEB is headed by Sergei Gorkov. Prior to that, he worked as Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank, where he oversaw the Bank's international transactions. At the time of arrival, VEB was experiencing serious problems - the state corporation for several years gave loans for projects that could not pay off (at least 240 billion rubles for projects related to the Olympics in Sochi, $ 8 billion to buy industrial assets in the Donbass).

In the summer of 2016, the bank adopted a five-year development strategy - "VEB 2.0", according to which in 2018 the bank was to make a profit. As a result of 2017, Vnesheconombank revealed a record loss in its history - 287.7 billion rubles. (2.6 times more than in 2016). The reason for this result VEB called the creation of reserves for impairment of assets (for these purposes, 250 billion rubles.).

In the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, which opens on May 24, Sergei Gorkov will not take part. At the same time, according to the program of the forum as of May 22, Gorkov was to become a moderator of the "Digital-Renaissance" session.

In an interview with the corporate magazine of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Gorkov announced "VEB's active participation in all programs". "We see great potential for launching a full-fledged investment pipeline. Currently, in our field of vision - projects worth hundreds of billions of rubles in such sectors as infrastructure (roads), chemistry, processing of solid domestic waste, "Gorkov described the prospects for VEB's work.
