Alisher Usmanov will hide Vkontakte users from FSB

Within a month, the largest Russian social network "In Contact" will change the rules of privacy and introduce the opportunity to make the profile completely private, leaving access only to its friends.
This was reported by the managing director of the company Andrey Rogozov on his page Vcontacte. He called this change the most important privacy reform in the last few years.

Amendments that imposed criminal penalties for posts in social networks were adopted in 2014. Human rights activists state that over the past year, the number of penalties for posts in the network has multiplied.

Such measures should protect users of the social network from a large number of criminal cases, Rogozov reckons. "Statistics show that the situation with the initiation of criminal cases for publications on the Internet is deteriorating. Users "In contact" are increasingly becoming involved in such cases. And we are extremely worried about this, "Rogozov wrote. "Law enforcement agencies often do not take into account the context, do not distinguish the publication from the repost, and equate the image with a dubious joke to really dangerous criminal offenses." "In contact" is obliged to comply with Russian laws and facilitate the search for real criminals, but the social network against unjustified persecution for publications on the Internet, Rogozov points out.

The social network "In Contact" is also under pressure due to the huge number of criminal cases related to the publication of pictures, reposts, the head of the international human rights group "Agora" Pavel Chikov told Vedomosti.

Because of the "package Yarovoy" "In contact" from January 1, 2018 is obliged to provide a wide range of information about users on requests of law enforcement agencies, as voluntarily entered the list of organizers of information dissemination, says Chikov. At the same time, the question of the legality of the provision of information pertaining to the correspondence and privacy of users remains open, as this requires a court decision: for example, correspondence in messengers, in closed groups, archive of photographs, etc. Previously, the social network had the obligation to provide such information on investigators' requests or by court order, says Chikov. The social network could easily refuse operatives, the human rights activist explained.

In June, the writer and State Duma deputy Sergei Shargunov and the chairman of the Rodina Party, Alexei Zhuravlev, proposed decriminalizing repatches and submitted to the State Duma bills that abolish the criminal responsibility for distributing statements on the Internet that propagate hatred or enmity, as well as humiliating human dignity. They propose to transfer the elements from the Criminal Code (CC) to the Code of Administrative Offenses (CoAO).

Mail.ru Group Corporation last week offered to release unjustly convicted for husks on the net. "We are convinced that the legislation and law enforcement practice should be changed. We consider necessary the amnesty of the unjustly convicted, serving time for the relevant charges, and the decriminalization of such cases in the future, "the company said in its corporate blog.
