The Public Monitoring Commission for the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug reported that there were no health complaints from Alexei Navalny. The local department of the Investigative Committee of Russia began an investigation into the death of the politician. A special commission of managers and employees of operational and medical units of the central office of the Federal Penitentiary Service was sent to the colony.

Kommersant correspondent Andrei Kolesnikov asked Dmitry Peskov if the president knew about the death of Alexei Navalny. “Yes, he was informed. Doctors will look into it,” the press secretary said. “As far as we know, in accordance with all current rules, the FSIN carries out all inspections. There is a certain set of rules in this regard that the FSIN is guided by,” said Dmitry Peskov. When asked whether the oppositionist’s blood clot had actually broken off, the press secretary replied: “I don’t know. The doctors must find out."

Alexei Navalny's lawyer Leonid Solovyov refused to comment on Novaya Gazeta's report on the death of his client. “By decision of Alexei Navalny’s family, I am not commenting on anything at all. Let's figure it out now. Alexey had a lawyer on Wednesday. Everything was fine then,” the lawyer said.

The oppositionist's press secretary Kira Yarmysh (recognized by the Ministry of Justice as a foreign agent) reported in X that his associates have no confirmation of the death of Alexei Navalny. According to her, the politician’s lawyer flew to Kharp.

During his imprisonment, Alexei Navalny was regularly sent to a punishment cell (punishment cell). The politician was charged with creating an extremist community and calling for extremism. In March 2022, the politician was sentenced to nine years in a penal colony in a case of fraud and insult to court, and in August 2023, to 19 years in a special regime penal colony in a case of extremism.

In August 2020, Alexey Navalny was poisoned with an unknown substance in Omsk; he was later transported to Germany for treatment. According to Western experts, the oppositionist was poisoned with a substance from the Novichok group of toxic warfare agents.

The Russian side has repeatedly said that the German authorities never provided the results of the politician’s analyzes at Russia’s request. In an interview with an NBC journalist, Vladimir Putin denied the version that he allegedly could have ordered an assassination attempt on Alexei Navalny. “We are not in the habit of killing anyone,” the president said.
