18 fire brigades arrived at the scene. During the collapse of the dilapidated wall, the commander of the fire and rescue unit Alexander Yermakov was killed, two of his fellow workers were injured and taken to hospital. A special fire train arrived to help North Ossetian colleagues from Kabardino-Balkaria, equipped with everything necessary to extinguish large fires. In total, over one hundred EMERCOM employees and dozens of vehicles were involved in extinguishing the fire at the enterprise.

Against this background, emergency calls were made in social networks and messengers to evacuate from Vladikavkaz - residents were confident that toxic substances were released into the atmosphere along with products of combustion. There were reports of sore throat and a metallic taste when breathing from all urban areas.

The situation was aggravated by the fact that for several decades now “Electrozinc” has been considered the main environmental problem in North Ossetia and almost every week Vladikavkaz residents complain about caustic emissions. Residents of the republic stated that these emissions are the main cause of the growth of oncological diseases, although representatives of the plant and management of North Ossetia argued that production was safe.

The Emergency Situations Ministry of North Ossetia stated that the excess of harmful substances in the atmosphere was not recorded. The only thing that is doubled is the content of carbon dioxide in the air, which, by the way, always happens during large fires.
Employees of the plant, with whom he talked to “Kommersant”, argued that there was no threat of a large explosion.

At 13:12 a fire at the plant was localized, TASS reported with reference to the MOE.

Later, the press service of the UMMC said that the fire had been extinguished: “The fire localized at 13:12 at the“ Electrozink ”plant in Vladikavkaz has now been extinguished, the pouring of the squares is ending. Damage caused is established. Production at the enterprise is temporarily suspended. Evacuation of residents of nearby houses is not required. "

At 15:33 the fire was extinguished, Interfax reported, citing the Emergencies Ministry.

The plant "Electrozinc" was built at the end of the 19th century and was modernized several times. In the early 2000s, it was acquired by the UMMC holding, and since then it has been in its structure. At the enterprise itself, they stated that “for residents of the city, a fire is not dangerous, no harmful emissions are produced”.
